The RayKo Photo Center has a long Bay Area history as a community hub for photographers. The new 12,000 SF facility offers digital imaging tools, rental darkrooms, a retail space promoting the work of regional artists, and a gallery. The design is based on issues central to the process of photography itself– the control and modulation of light, by creating a glowing icon at the center, the calmness of which counteracts the potentially overwhelming technical demands on the tight space.
